Welcome to my web page!
My name is Mrs. Leifert, and I am your child's 6th Grade Teacher for Reading and Writing!
My goal is to provide an environment conducive to learning that allows each student to become flexible, resilient readers and writers!
Region 6 uses the Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Units of Study for our curriculum. This curriculum is designed to continue student development in reading and writing through direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice. In Reading this year, we will be covering a Deep Study of Characters, The Power of Nonfiction and Social Issues. Our writing will be organized around the three types of writing aligned to the Common Core: Argument, Information, and Narrative
What is Reader's/Writer's Workshop?
The workshop model is an incredibly efficient method of teaching reading and writing. Within the workshop structure, teachers are able to address both the whole group’s needs as well as differentiating for the needs of small groups and individuals. This instructional practice, allows teachers to not only meet standards but also provide students the time and support they need to grow into fluent readers and writers. II
